At Barefoot Birth, our doula is dedicated to providing unconditional and unwavering birth support to expectant mothers and their families. Our doula offers compassionate care, personalized attention, and a wealth of knowledge to empower people as they navigate the profound experience of bringing life into the world.
At Barefoot Birth, our Full Spectrum Doulas offer a wealth of knowledge and direct support from Charlie Rae Young LM, CPM, CLC- a Florida Licensed Midwife with 16 years of experience in the Tampa birth community.
A Full Spectrum Doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support to the pregnant person throughout the entire reproductive process. This can include helping create a birth plan, providing education and guidance on childbirth options, providing comfort measures during labor such as massage and breathing techniques, and advocating for the families wishes with medical staff. The role of a doula is to provide continuous support to the birthing person, regardless of the birth setting or type of birth. Doulas do not provide medical care, but they work alongside medical professionals to ensure that the birthing persons needs are being met and their wishes are being respected.
What Does Full Spectrum Doula support look like?
On going support - Access to message/call for your entire pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.
Personalized care - Together we will make a list of birth wishes, discuss different options and what would be best suited for your needs.
Education and guidance - With a doula by your side you have access to all of our resources and handouts. Charlie has personally trained with Gail Tully, the founder Spinning Babies, Ina May Gaskin, Marsden Wagner and various other cornerstone experts in the birthing community. She provides clients with up to date with evidence based birth practices and will be there to support you through your journey with a midwifery lens. You can read Charlie’s resume HERE.
Preservation - Pregnancy, birth and postpartum are sacred, this means that all birthing people should be protected. A doula can help facilitate a peaceful golden hour and provide guidance on the first latch.
Lactation & Infant feeding
As a Certified Lactation Counselor, we will address any concerns or challenges you may be facing. Together we will come up with a personalized plan to see what works best for you and your family. This also includes breast pump guidance, flange fitting and even choosing what bottle might work best. We provide ongoing assistance and are just a phone call away. Our support doesn’t end after the first latch either, we are here to hold your hand through the weaning process. No matter what your feeding journey may look like, we are here for you.
Why Should I hire a midwife as doula support instead of ‘just’ a doula?
Charlie has supported thousands of families through pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period in home, birth center, and hospital settings. She has trained hundreds of doulas in her community doula trainings since 2012. Her expertise shines through in providing one to one support that hospital based providers just are not equipped to provide their patients. While doulas have many backgrounds and different levels of training, Charlie’s midwifery credentials make her especially suited for helping families navigate the often overwhelming hospital system. Her time spent in the prenatal and birthing space combined with various roles in the birthing, litigation, legislative, and educational community sets her apart.
Investment for this service begins at $3000 and includes two prenatal visits that include childbirth education, support on delivery day, and 2 postpartum visits.
Clients who are looking for the most continuity of their care may also choose to have Charlie as their primary care provider and have their entire prenatal care course with us. Complete prenatal care with planned hospital delivery is available on a pay per visit option to utilize private insurance for labs and ultrasound or we do offer global care discounts that include all routine labs.
