Walking through Loss | Megan's Story

As part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in October, we will be sharing stories of loss from local families. Please know that if you have experienced loss, you are not alone. Please join us at our 3rd Annual Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Family Walk on October 15th to find the support and community you need to walk through your grief. We will be donating all proceeds to local loss groups who provide year round support for area families. A big thank you to Michelle Beckley of Running Circles Photography for her beautiful contribution of this photo series.

This is Megan‘s story.

I found out I was pregnant right after Thanksgiving in 2017. The father was very much against having a child at this point and left us. As hard as I knew it was going to be to do it alone I was ready and couldn't wait to experience all those firsts... I had that amazing feeling of butterflies for a few weeks. I had planned on telling my family about the good news that Christmas. My second doctor’s appointment was the Friday before Christmas. I was supposed to be going to hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time only to be told that I had lost the baby... I went to work and kept the sad news to myself until after the holidays. I don't have very many people that I am close with here in FL so finding all these amazing support groups was the only thing that helped get me through that first year without my baby.

Since I never knew a gender I gave my baby 2 gender neutral names, Madden Shea, who's 1st birthday would have been earlier this month, August 1st.
