World Doula Week | Barefoot Birth Doula Support | Our Doula Team - Part One

Our Barefoot Birth doulas work together very similarly to our midwifery model of care but instead of three midwives and a student, you receive support from two doulas, Brandi Morales and Vanessa Kekuewa.

Brandi started her path into birth work unknowingly in 2013. She was looking into support for her pregnant teen sister and reached out to Melinda Morales with Project Teen Birth. A non-profit community outreach program that specializes in teen pregnancy and young parent support. “It’s foundation was created on the belief that regardless of age, every one deserves support throughout all pregnancy experiences and outcomes, birth, and postpartum.” Brandi knew this was what her sister needed and was excited to share all the evidence for doulas and their benefits! This is how Brandi started her way into birth work at the suggestion and guidance of Melinda ((THANK YOU FRIEND)) Soon after, Brandi took a CAPPA training, followed by a Barefoot Birth doula training (or two!) Brandi now counts her nephew’s birthdays as her own doula birthday! Throughout the years Brandi has walked with many families, supporting their choices, providing resources, knowledge, and encouraging words with countless hip-squeezes! You can often find Brandi with her daughter, Emilena, volunteering at Community Roots along side her other (birthy) half, Vanessa Kekuewa.
